Resolved: That the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 will successfully mitigate economic slowdowns over the next year.
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 is legislation that was passed overwhelmingly by the House and Senate and signed into law by the President in the middle of February. The Act is a response to downturns in the US economy that began in the fourth quarter of 2007. Economists have engaged in rigorous debate since that time to assess the effectiveness of the provisions of the stimulus package; individual tax rebates, business tax incentives, and higher housing insurance and loan limits. The most effective way to approach the topic is to understand the economic theories the authors are working off of and cite statistical evidence to support the theory.
In addition, feel free to join the “Public Forum Debate” Facebook group; there are over 500 debaters from across the country discussing current topics on that forum. If you have questions on anything in the strategy or regarding the evidence, send me an e-mail at Michelle@finalistfiles.com or a Facebook Message to Michelle Schmit. Please make your questions specific; that way I can be the most helpful. In addition, I will be the director of the Public Forum division at the Florida Forensics Institute Debate Camp held this summer from July 18 until August 4. If anyone is interested in attending please contact me for further information. I know many of you debating this month will be attending the Tournament of Champions; congratulations on qualifying and good luck!
