Resolved: That, on balance, social networking Web sites have a positive impact on the United States.

This topic should interest a lot of high school students. Social network Web sites are ubiquitous amongst high school and college students although that demographic is expanding. It is also a topic many of you will be familiar with prior to researching. Is the tradeoff between increased communication capacities and privacy inherent to SNSs? Is a larger network of weaker relationships preferable to a smaller network of close ties? Are participants in social networking aware of how their information is being used? These questions have been posed by the resolution. The packet is filled with evidence but most is social science research derived from surveys. It’ll be nice to have the studies but the team who puts the most analytical thought into this topic will win.

Prove the first Pro point and join the Public Forum Debate Facebook Group to make social network sites educational! In all seriousness there is a discussion of the topic and other debate-related topics taking place in that forum on a regular basis. Direct any questions to Michelle Schmit on Facebook or the michelle@finalistfiles.com. Good Luck in another month of Debate!
