Resolved: That the United States should encourage the implementation of a soft partition of Iraq.

Foreword: This month of debate should be controversial to say the least. Nonetheless, a topic about the future of Iraq is definitely timely. Today (September 10), General Petraeus reported to Congress on the results of President Bush’s troop surge. Detailed plans for Iraq are being discussed among Presidential candidates, academic scholars, US veterans, and of course, within the White House. Soft partition specifically has a few strong supporters who have contributed extensive plans; plans that have warranted attention. To be the most effective in round, I would take the time to get acquainted with the conflict in Iraq including information on the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds. The strategy guides this month are written with an emphasis on background information. In addition, be sure to present your position thoughtfully so as to avoid alienating your probably partisan judge. Please feel free to join the “Public Forum Debate” group on Facebook where over 250 high school debate students discuss monthly topics among other NFL issues. If you have any questions or would like any additional help, send me a Facebook message or email me at Good Luck tackling this complex topic.
